The 3 Most Common Hypnosis Mistakes

Building rapport is vital for successful hypnosis. The difference between the success of a hypnotist who builds rapport and one who doesn’t (or can’t) is huge, and time and time again it is the difference between success and helping your client, or failure and a poor result.

If you can improve your rapport skills you will directly improve your overall skill as a hypnotist. The ability to develop rapport with your client is the first thing you should do, or if you don’t it could lead to one of these 3 common mistakes:

The first most common mistake made is trying to be too nice. Often if you are hypnotizing someone it is to help them overcome a certain problem. There is always the temptation to sugar coat your true thoughts as to not offend them, however this can really get in the way of proper, and professional treatment.

Basically you should never be “too nice” if it is going to be at the cost of real communication. Say what you need to say. If you do not act honestly like this then you will not establish real rapport with your subject.

The second mistake is trying too hard to build rapport. When we try too hard it looks desperate, and no-one likes to be with someone who is desperate.  When you give out this desperate energy those around you feel under pressure, or obliged into certain behavior, and if this is the case then it can lead to a total lack of real communication. Again this is a real hypnosis killer.

Trying too hard may even lead to the “Law of Reversed Effect”. The means that the harder you try, the more likely you will be to instead, fail.

The third mistake that is common in expecting too much too soon. Everyone responds to hypnosis in different ways. Some seeing dramatic changes very soon, and others more gradually. If you give away your wishes too early and the subject senses you are dissapointed in their progress then it is very likely they will believe hypnosis is not working for them.

This then becomes a real self fulfilling prophecy and they put up barriers and create more negative thoughts and energy which stop the changes from really happening.

Igor Ledochowski Conversational Hypnosis Interview

January 19th, 2010 No comments

Igor LedochowskiThis is the first part in a mini series, containing an interview with Igor Ledochowski from Conversational-Hypnosis.com.

Today we are going to go back to basics look at exactly what is “Conversational Hypnosis”, how you can use it and what’s really possible for you to achieve with it… were promise we won’t get carried away – we will be honest and show you what it can’t do and it’s limitations too!

The area of hypnosis can be broadly divided up into two major types of hypnosis, and now we will give brief definitions of both to show you the difference and how conversational hypnosis fits into hypnosis overall.

Direct Hypnosis

The first is what is generally called “Direct” hypnosis and it’s what most people will think of when you talk to them about hypnosis. In Direct hypnosis it’s completely clear what’s happening. It is commonly understood as either clinical hypnosis where you visit a hypnotherapist to help resolve a personal problem, and stage hypnosis also falls into this category of direct hypnosis.

In direct hypnosis the hypnotist openly puts the subject into a trance and give them specific suggestions or instructions – either to overcome their problems… or act like a chicken, depending on who you visit :P

Indirect Hypnosis

The other type of hypnosis is what’s known as “Indirect” hypnosis. With this kind it is much less obvious what is happening.

You will still go into a trance, but it won’t be the kind of trance where you close your eyes and respond directly to the hypnotist. Instead, in most cases, you will be totally unaware that you are being hypnotized.

“Conversational Hypnosis” is the most common form of indirect hypnosis – also sometimes referred to as covert hypnosis.

As a very basic definition this is the ability to put someone into a mild trance like state during a regular conversation and without them being aware they are being led into a trance.

Once this is the case you can use this trance state to achieve the outcome or purpose that you desire.

Conversational Hypnosis follows all of the same principles as the more regular kind of direct hypnosis, but the big difference is that with Conversational Hypnosis, your subject will appear to be in a normal state of consciousness to all intents and purposes – to a passer by nothing out of the ordinary will be noticed, it will just look like an ordinary conversation :)

What hypnosis is and what it is not

First we will talk about what hypnosis is NOT – there are a lot of misconceptions of what is and isn’t possible. A lot of this mis-information comes from the media and is basically the idea that  it is possibly to completely control someone else against their will.

This is simply not the case and I personally, I think it’s a good thing that this is NOT possible at all!

But “Wait” you’ll say, “In stage hypnosis people were running around acting like chickens and doing all sorts of crazy things. Surely the hypnotist had complete control?”

Well no not really to be honest… You see a stage hypnotist’s job is to create the illusion of control. Think about the very
first thing a stage hypnotist does. He invites people to volunteer and come up on stage. So anyone who doesn’t want to act like a chicken, are they going to volunteer? Of course not!

It is the exhibitionists, the people who want to show off who volunteer. The hypnotist then takes advantage of this, or their suggestibility and leads them down a path.. a path to acting like a chicken :)

So, does this mean that hypnosis won’t help you persuade people to do what you want them to?…. Far from it!  :)

This was a short interview / written piece by Igor Ledochowski from Conversational-Hypnosis.com. He has written the ultimate guide (with a massive accompanying audio series) on the subject of covert or conversational hypnosis. Advice from Bob Proctor – Allow Yourself To Receive

January 17th, 2010 No comments

Here is a little bit of wisdom from the master of manifestation himself – Bob Proctor. This snippet is just part of the advice he gives out in his ground-breaking 11 forgotten laws audio series:

Imagine a lost child who approaches a police officer and asks, “Excuse me Sir, can you tell me how to go to the post office? Can you? Can you tell me where it is? Can you? Where is it sir? Can you? Can you?” Well, if the child  carries on asking repeatedly, the policeman isn’t even able to get a word in to give an answer is he?

This is the exact same thing with your mind. If the only thing your mind is doing is transmit, transmit, transmit, the universe; i.e. sending out your manifestation intention over and over again without a break then although the universe may try to respond it can’t get in. Or, more importantly you are not able to recognise the early signals as you are still too busy transmitting! You are not allowing yourself to receive!

So, have the confidence in yourself to ask and to be able to receive. Stop exhausting yourself by running around person to person begging for riches, and then wondering why nobody is dropping a penny in your cup ( is it because you’re running away too fast for them before they can give you anything?).

Just think of your desires and leave it out there, go away, and EXPECT that you will receive your wishes all in good time.

This is probably a little different to some of the law of attraction advice you have read, which recommends you pursuing things constantly and persistently, going all out for it… and you might wonder how you can just ask and receive in this simple way…

… Well Bob is pretty special, and he has the law of attraction down to an art-form! If you are struggling with the Law of Attraction then Bob is the leading figure and if you listen to what he has to say on the area and actually follow through on his advice then you can’t go far wrong.

The Power Of Hypnosis and Everyday Trances

January 15th, 2010 No comments

What is Hypnosis?

Probably the most typical notion is that hypnosis is an altered state of mind which brings the subject to a hypnotic trance like state. But it really is a lot more than this. When somebody is under hypnosis they’re significantly more responsive as they experience their inner world and they become more suggestable towards the hypnotic instructions of the hypnotherapist.

Another thing that hypnosis is is an extremely natural way of being, it’s not magical or unusual, and in reality many people spend a lot of their time in hypnotic trances, and as you learn how to entrance other people you’ll begin to observe those around you who are going through hypnotic trances in everyday life.

An example of an everyday experience that can often result in a hypnotic trance is driving. Many times we get behind the wheel and know where we started, and suddenly we are at our destination. Tis a hypnotic trance – we don’t remember the whole journey, we drive almost out of instinct and on autopilot.

The rhythms we are used to, including the feel of the vehicle, can relax us to the stage that our unconscious takes over and does the work for us whilst we, excuse the term as many like to call it, ‘zone out’. This might sound peculiar at first however , if you really consider all the routines we do each day we have been conditioned all through out our lives to enter hypnotic trances.

Entering this altered frame of mind is a type of self hypnotherapy which is a very powerful place to put yourself, and can be used in a number of ways to benefit you.

How Can Hypnosis Be Used?

Hypnosis can be an amazing tool if used properly, it can be used:

  • For personal development, and to help rewire your beliefs and thoughts in various areas – you can use subliminal downloads for help in reaching almost any goal – from confidence to motivation and success in business, and much more. If you are interested in using hypnosis for personal development then read our hypnosis downloads review here.
  • To influence people, persuade them to your way of thinking, and lead people to a desired outcome. By learning just a little hypnosis yourself you can learn to embed simple hypnotic commands into your conversations with people to do exactly this. If you are interested in using hypnosis like this then you can read more in our power of conversational hypnosis review here.

Be Patient and Attract More

January 15th, 2010 No comments

Another post in our wisdom snippets series from master law of attraction expert Bob Proctor. This week’s lesson is about having a little patience.

We couldn’t agree more, too many people try the law of attraction and expect instant results… then the give up and grumble that it didn’t work :( If only they had a little more patience and persistence and stuck with it a little.. anyway here’s over to Bob:

Receiving takes time – especially when you are working with the universal laws of attraction.

Sadly, most people give up just a couple of steps before the finish line because they’ve decided that if it’s not working by now, it’s never going to work at all (what a shame!). Worse still are those who throw in more and more energy because they think that with more resources, the results will come faster.

This is like expecting 9 mothers to conceive and deliver a baby in 1 month. You also can’t bake cookies in half the time by doubling the temperature. You’ll incinerate those cookies to ashes!

In everyday terms it can be said that everything in our world has a natural development time, and this fact will not change no matter what resources you throw at it. Getting erratic, throwing more energy at something won’t help, but if you stay persistent and also just wait it out rather than quitting and giving up then you will often see results further down the line.

So relax and be patient! Remember that you too, (because you are still part of the universe), are also governed by the laws of the universe, and you cannot change the natural development time.

If you remember this, you will less likely work yourself up into frustration, or worse, push yourself into a downward spiral of negativity. Having a little more patience will help you in all areas of your life generally, but with regards to the law of attraction it is essential – without a little patience you just won’t get the result you want.

Patience is a skill which is all too often easier said than done often, and it is easy to look at other people and tell them to be patient, yet harder to practice a little restraint when we are pursuing something we really want :)

If you can relate to Bob’s words and would like to know more then read our 11 forgotten laws review – an objective look at Bob Proctors popular (and very comprehensive) guide to the law of attraction – see what we make of it and see if it’s really all it is made out to be :)
